Joined together in time and space

I was lost, but yet found again. I don't know what happens, but sometimes it just happens. A little more ideas for Hannah.

More ideas for Murat;

Round and Round We go;

Tried to play around with hairdressing materials, dyes, polyester fabric, difference between hard and soft materials, here are some of the ideas along that way.

Meet Murat,

Murat is a hairdresser, and his object was a scissors. His grandfather was a hairdresser for men, and he wanted the scissors from his grandfather when he started his job. He thinks even if he wants to replace the scissors with a very expensive object, this will not be possible because of sentimental values.

Lets get back to the book,

Picked my favourite bits from the book, I will choose words, maybe sentences, and twisting it a little.

''I cycled back to the town and put an end to the rest of my old existence. I visited the paper where I had from time to time submitted material, and told them I wouldn't be writing any more for a while. Maybe never. I also cancelled my bedsit, the telephone and the newspaper subscription. And I sold my books, and the Tv set.
...
There I sat sweating.
I had performed a feat.
No nonsense here.
This was not Sesame Street. "

" I decide to go out and buy something that will make me think about nice things, or preferably just a smile. ..
After a bit of thinking it becomes apparent that I'm looking for an object which:
- Is small enough for me to carry easily
- Costs no more than a hundred kroner
- Can be used many times
- Can be used indoors as well as outdoors
- Can be used alone or with someone else
- Gets me active
- Makes me forget about time
....

'' Maybe a suitable object exists, and maybe it doesn't. It's not that important. But the list is important. This is a discovery to me. This has a value.
I sit there pondering which objects will fulfill my desires.
It could be several. But I just want one thing.
Suddenly it is clear to me that what I seek is a ball.
A ball, plain and simple. I feel a sting of eagerness.''

This is the reason of a red ball, and its a symbolic meaning of something deeper that relates to him. I like that

the red ball idea,

just a few bits and pieces, to be worked on..
For Hannah's profile...

No good to be home.. no good

Im at college now, and my battery died for the camera, I cant upload work no longer.. I was just in the mood, but I will do it soon, I promice.

Meet Ata,

I chose his colors as Red, Orange and Yellow, and his fabrics will be felt, cashmere, and wool. His object was a thermal jumper, and he talked about how he makes music on the streets, and if there wasnt the jumper to keep him warm, than he couldnt do music on the streets.so I wanted fabrics that would keep us warm from cold.

Meet Nicola,

Ok, so Nicola's object was a wheelchair. So I thought about movement, movement in time and objects that move around all the time in constant move (im repeating myself way too much, and way too much i am making spelling mistakes) but I know YOU dont mind.
And I am also thinking of taking photos that will be relating to movement, or moving objects as wheels as such, and have an accidental feel to show the movement.

We LOOOVE your face..

I wanted to also make Hannah's portrait, because she's got a very characteristic face, and a very energetic personality. So I am thinking of combinging the "red ball" with the portrait somehow, the ball being very energetic as a part of her character almost, and the still portrait.

Hannah

Lets get back to Hannah, and her object "red ball" I started reading Naive Super. Its an amazing book, by a 25 year old Norwegian writer. Here are some quotes from the book
"I sit there pondering which objects will fulfil my desires. It could be several. But I just want one thing. Suddenly it is clear to me that what I seek is a ball. A ball, plain and simple. I feel a sting of eagerness" " When it gets dark I'm going to go down into the courtyard and throw the ball against a wall. I look forward to that." The main character of the book chooses an object for several reasons, to get him active, to make him forget about time.. This character of the book is an insperation to Hannah, There are 2 photographs and 1 stitched fabric.

I have no idea why my account was disabled for some time, but I'm back, I had decided to do this today.. Instead of doing my blog ofcourse I was looking at mail-art sites, and found couple of really cool projects that would like to participate.
I will post some of the outcomes later on..

Wednesday 3 February 2010

I cannot believe I had just discovered Delicious Design League. These posters are amazingly edgy, however they work perfectlly well. From Sonic Youth to Animal Collective, Delicious Design had been there, screen-printed them all themselves. Wooooooow! I'm going to work better on the posters tonight..

Give and take..

"The Home Duvet lets you sleep under a cardboard box so a homeless person doesn't have to!"

Great project, as "30% of the gross profits go to Centrepoint, the UK charity for homeless young people aged 16-25 (charity number 292411)" and the printing has been done really well!
I think this is magnificent! http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/2009/06/29/repestect-yourself/

i spilled the ink across the page, trying to spell your name..

ok, so I decided that the last post wasn't very good, so I scanned the postcards, and they look more like the original. These postcards are going to be left in the cafes, and some of them will be handed out on the streets, and some as a post to people's homes. When I get a response, I want to ask the person if the postcard provoked any emotions, as well as them joining the interview with the postcards. I am very excited about this, as I didn't want to hand in something grey, and instead of that, because I am focusing on the individual as they are, so I thought about making the postcards different to each of them, and I am curious of what characters are going to choose which ones.

Post Secret.

Rather than just visiual research, I am interested in these projects that deal with people in general. This project that I came across is called "Post Secret." I came across this project about 3 months ago. I found the book about the project, thats how I got to know more about the project. I will post some of the secrets, later on. It is very interesting indeed. What is interesting for me is, that people post these secrets, but they really put their effort in the visualisation. Not all of the people are artist, but the visuals are very outstanding, although they may be collages, it really looks like they put so much effort in the project, and they feel passionate about their secret. I guess it kind of has this effect that when you post, or write down your secrets, burn them or send them away, that they will dissappear somehow. Very interesting.

Meet Hannah,

I met Hannah the other day. She saw my add in Old Street in a club. She was a very insperational girl, her object was a red ball. Her insperation for the red ball is from the book "Naive Super." I will read the book, and find out more things from the character that she liked so much. Hannah mostly carries her object with her when she feels stresfull, and the object lets her know that everything will be alright.

Yesterday's Sandwich by Boris Mikhailov..

I went to Foyles (the bookstore) thinking I could research on my project a bit more, I found this book yesterday's sandwich. I thought the book was fantastic, not only with the photographs, but also how the artist played on them, and made it very individual (possibly to the character that he took the pictures of, and the mood really comes out with the colors.) beautiful!

David Moore Photographs from 'The Last things' book

I like these photographs because although they are very subtle, and everyday objects and places they are kind of quirky in a very unknown way.
